Chimayó Real Estate
Chimayó is a historic unincorporated community in Rio Arriba County along the High Road to Taos, approximately 25 miles north of Santa Fe. The village is internationally known for the Santuario de Chimayó, a Catholic pilgrimage church that draws an estimated 300,000 visitors annually and is often called the "Lourdes of America." Each Holy Week, tens of thousands of pilgrims walk to the Santuario from as far as Albuquerque.
Housing & Character
Chimayó's real estate consists primarily of traditional adobe homes and small properties within the historic village and surrounding hills. The community is renowned for its centuries-old weaving tradition — Ortega's Weaving Shop and Centinela Traditional Arts have produced hand-woven textiles for generations. Chimayó chile, a locally cultivated heirloom variety, is prized throughout New Mexico. The village's deep cultural authenticity, scenic beauty along the Santa Cruz River, and proximity to Santa Fe make it a cherished northern New Mexico community.
