Chama, population 1,022 (2020 Census), is a mountain village at 7,871 feet elevation in northern Rio Arriba County, just 10 miles from the Colorado border. The town is best known as the New Mexico terminus of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, a National Historic Landmark steam railway that crosses the 10,015-foot Cumbres Pass into Colorado.
