Pecos, population approximately 1,400, is a village in the upper Pecos River valley about 25 miles east of Santa Fe via I-25. At approximately 7,000 feet elevation, Pecos combines mountain living with reasonable Santa Fe commuting. The Pecos National Historical Park preserves one of the largest pueblo ruins in the Southwest along with a Spanish mission church. The Pecos River and Pecos Wilderness area are renowned for trout fishing and backcountry hiking in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
